Mammal of the Month!

Stoat, photo by David Chapman

Stoat

Mustela erminea

The stoat can be distinquished from the weasel, as the stoat is larger and has a black tip to its tail.

These excellent hunters often forage along hedgrows and ditches, systematically searching for prey in zig-zag patterns.

If you do see a stoats, or any mammal, please do let us and the local record centre know.

We need to know WHAT you saw, WHERE and WHEN you saw it and WHO you are. Records can be sent direct to ERCCIS here.

Farm Survey,

Saturday 14th August

9.00am - 12pm

Hallworthy, North Cornwall.

An opportunity to search for mammals and signs on a dairy farm just outside Hallworthy in this beautiful, but relatively poorly recorded, area of North Cornwall. We will be running this event in collaboration with the Launceston Parish Wildlife Group and there will be an opportunity to look for plants, insects and birds as well. We shall be setting Longworth traps to try and gather evidence of wood mice, bank and field voles and possibly shrews. In addition we hope to be able to find signs of otter (the site has several large wildlife ponds) and deer (it is close to an area of forestry).

Please book before Wednesday 11th August by email: enquiries@cornwallmammalgroup.co.uk or call Dave Groves on 01566 86416

Please provide contact detailsĀ  and we will provide further details of the venue before Friday 13th August.
